The San Diego Botanic Garden (SDBG) has selected Dr. Ari Novy to serve as its new president and CEO, following long-time president Julian Duval’s retirement earlier this year. Dr. Novy is a plant biologist, active researcher, and an environmental commissioner of the City of Encinitas. He previously served as the executive director of the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., and as the chief scientist at the Leichtag Foundation. “We are excited to have the opportunity to have a nationally recognized scientist as our new president and CEO,” said John DeWald, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for SDBG. “We look forward to Ari taking the gardens to the next level from the great base that Julian has created.” Dr. Novy officially assumed his new role in October.

Julian Duval was honored with the Paul Ecke, Jr. Award at SDBG’s annual Gala in the Garden in September for his 24 years of service to the garden as well as his numerous contributions to the local horticultural community. Learn more at www.sdbgarden.org.
