This Family of Four Loves Life in Encinitas
Meet the Greens
Fourteen years ago marked the beginning of the Green family’s story. Nicole and Peter met at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, where they were both attending a B-Side Players concert. A marriage, two kids, and a dog later, the Green family is now happily settled into their beloved neighborhood in Encinitas. “We love Encinitas and are truly grateful to live in such a wonderful community,” said the family, who moved to 92024 from Carmel Valley in 2010. “We have great neighbors, are walking distance to parks, trails, and shops, and we enjoy raising our kids in a beach community.”
The Green children, Sofia and Jackson, both attend El Camino Creek Elementary School, are very involved in community activities, and are “always up for an adventure,” described Nicole. “Jackson has been on the move since he learned to walk.” Jackson plays for the Encinitas Little League and Express Soccer league. He enjoys fishing, surf casting, BMX bikes, Adventure Guides, and skateboarding at Encinitas Community Park. Sofia plays softball and soccer, enjoys horseback riding, math, art, and Adventure Princesses. “Sofia is a real go-getter with a big heart,” shared Nicole.
Peter, originally from Ohio, attended Cal State San Marcos for his MBA degree and currently works at AMN Healthcare in Carmel Valley, managing the company’s paid digital marketing and email efforts. “AMN is a great company to work for and he is able to ride his bike to work along the coast which is awesome!” said Nicole.
Nicole, a San Diego native, studied at University of Oregon before obtaining a teaching credential from Cal State San Marcos. This spring, Nicole is graduating from the University of San Diego with a master’s degree in nonprofit leadership and management after attending night classes for three years. She is currently the executive director for Casa de Amistad, a local nonprofit group that provides after-school mentoring and tutoring programs to low-income, underserved youth. “Casa recruits community volunteers, partners with the Magdalena Ecke YMCA, and other nonprofit organizations, and provides free music instruction to students through a partnership with the San Diego Youth Symphony,” described Nicole. “Over 230 students are mentored by 220 volunteers on a weekly basis.”
In their down time, the Green family enjoys going to the beach, camping, taking road trips, and staying active in the community. They are members of Solana Beach Presbyterian Church and also fundraise for the YMCA Dreamcatcher for YMCA Adventure Guides. She added, “Sofia and Jackson have grown up helping at Casa de Amistad and are learning the importance of giving back to the community.”
