The Solana Center will present a 5-week Master Composter course on Saturdays from April 29 through May 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club, 1221 Encinitas Blvd.

The Master Composter course will teach you how to: minimize your carbon footprint by keeping food and yard waste out of the landfill; use this “waste” to create a nutrient-rich amendment for your garden; reduce water use and increase water retention; and work with a team to build, maintain, and troubleshoot a traditional compost pile. The course will also cover vermicomposting (composting with worms) and Bokashi (compost fermentation).

The course fee is $50 per person, and covers lectures, demonstrations, and a field trip. For more information or to register call 760-436-7986 ext. 700 or visit www.solanacenter.org/events.
