The six miles of art that make up this year’s Arts Alive Encinitas Banner Art Exhibit will go on the auction block Sunday, May 15 2016 at 2 p.m., at a live auction taking place at the Cardiff Town Center. The live auction starts at 2 p.m. but the Art will be on display all of that day.

This is the 16th year that the 101 Artists’ Colony along with the Cardiff 101 and Leucadia 101 Main Street Associations have presented the community art event that showcases local artists and provides the community with a fun and non-intimidating way to buy fine art.

Arts Alive is the most spectacular exhibit of the year and a favorite art event in North County. It was originally conceived in Encinitas and the Arts Alive program has spread to numerous cities. Most recently, Ingleside in San Francisco and Brentwood north of San Francisco have asked the 101 Artists’ Colony for advice on how to do their own Arts Alive Exhibit. “We were happy to help,” said Danny Salzhandler, President of the 101 Artists’ Colony, “and now Ingleside is unveiling their first Arts Alive banners May 1.”

This year, 93 painted banners – all original pieces of artwork – have been on display on lamp posts on Historic Highway 101 in Downtown Encinitas, Cardiff and Leucadia since their unveiling in February. Proceeds from the banner sales are split 50/50 between the artists and either the 101 Artists’ Colony, Cardiff 101 and Leucadia 101 Main Street Associations. This year’s sponsors are Hansen’s Surf Shop, Cardiff Seaside Market and Leucadia’s “Summer Sun On The 101”.

“Silent” bids are currently being accepted by Leucadia 101 Main Street by phone at 760-436-2320 and the art can be viewed on line at Minimum bid is $150. Silent bids can also be made right up to the Live Auction at 2pm on Sunday, May 15th when auctioneer Rich Houk starts the action. Bidding can get lively so if you have asilent bid, come to the Live Auction to protect your bid!

The art banners will be coming down at the end of April so get out and see them on display along the Coast Hwy 101 from La Costa Ave. in Leucadia, through Encinitas to the Cardiff Seaside Market. Auction Picts
