Sunny skies and a predicted high of 70 degrees make this Saturday, Feb. 21 the perfect
day for the 3rd Annual 5K Paw Walk in the Garden benefiting the San Diego Botanic
Garden and the Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS). This marks the third time in history that dogs will be allowed in the garden. Day of event registration starts at 9 a.m. and the first paw crosses the starting line at 9:30 the San Diego Botanic Garden. Walkers will have access until 2 p.m.

“Most of us don’t need an excuse to walk our dogs,” said Nick Winfrey, Vice President of Planning and Development for RCHS. “But the 5K Paw Walk in the Garden is the only day when dogs are allowed in the garden. Walking through the gardens is even better with your dog along. And your participation in the 5K Paw Walk in the Garden supports these two landmark organizations.”

Sam Beukema, Education and Events Manager for the San Diego Botanic Garden, added, “We see longtime supporters for both organizations and we meet new friends who want to take the walk that every dog is begging to go on.”

Sam Bass, midday personality on KYXY radio, will serve as master of ceremonies. Contests include the “Peanut Butter Challenge,” the “Matching Twins” costume contest, and the “Sporty Team” group outfit contest.

There aren’t a lot of rules, but here are the most important ones:
*           Dogs must be kept on leash at all times. No leashes longer than 6 feet.
*           No dogs in heat.
*           Clean up after your dog.
*           No more than two dogs per person.
*           Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations.
