Councilmember Scott Sherman declared Oct. 28th “PetSmart Day” in honor of the good work that the company has done for the San Diego community. In particular, PetSmart donated $250,000 to Rady Children’s Hospital to fund its PetSmart Paws for Hope program.

The program provides thousands of patients with access to canine comfort teams. These comfort teams give patients the opportunity to feel the strong healing power of pets.

“I deeply appreciate PetSmart for their generous donation to Rady Children’s Hospital. This donation will help Rady’s continue their top notch treatments for San Diego’s children,” said Sherman.

“We are so grateful for the incredible generosity from PetSmart, which enables us to significantly enhance our Canine Therapy program,” said Steve Jennings, senior vice president and executive director of Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Many special programs rely on community support to operate, and with this donation, Rady Children’s will be better-equipped to provide the excellence in patient care we are known for nationwide.”

“We’re honored to receive this incredible recognition from the City of San Diego,” said David Lenhardt, president and CEO of PetSmart. “We are dedicated to enriching people’s lives through the power of pets, and we’re very fortunate to be able to work with partners, like the City of San Diego and Rady Children’s, who share this same belief.”
