Guardians of San Diego’s 22nd Annual Golf & Tennis Tournament presented by the William Gumpert Foundation raised more than $167,000 this year. Proceeds from “Take a Swing for Seniors” held July 29 will benefit the Resident Assistance Fund at Seacrest Village Retirement Communities.

Guardians of San Diego hosted over 115 golfers and tennis players at Monday’s event at the exclusive Del Mar Country Club. The golf tournament began at noon with a shotgun start on the beautiful course designed by American golf architect, Joseph Lee. Tennis players competed in round robin play on six tennis courts identical in surface and color to the courts used at the US Open. On the course, golfers quenched their thirst with ice cold beverages including beer donated by Fat Cat Beer Company.

The all-day event also included a silent auction, sliders and lunch on the course, cocktail reception and an iPad Opportunity Drawing in Del Mar’s private Club House. The top auction item was Golf for Three at The Bridges with former Seacrest Foundation Board member, Gary Levine, and other auction items included golf at The Crosby, Brentwood Country Club, Hillcrest Country Club, The Farms Golf Club along with vacation and adventure packages, wine collections, a limited edition Wyland lithograph and much more.

Tournament winners include Megan O’Dorisio and Brian Severin from Mutual of America with John Fusca and Brian Mumford from Jackson & Blanc in first place for golf; Gary, Justin, Lisa and Shirley Levine who were Gold Sponsors in second place for golf; Steve and Ann Kavy for tennis. Contest winners are Justin Levine for Men’s Longest Drive, Jenny Liu for Women’s Longest Drive, Chris Burso for Closest to the Pin and Jonathan Kabakoff for Straightest Drive. Patrick Dempsey, Jim Ardell and Dennis Trine won an iPad Mini each and Kevin Wunderly and Gary Pollak won the latest iPads each in the Opportunity Drawing.  This year’s committee was led by co-chairs, Devin Chodorow, John Kassar and Kevin Wunderly and included members Earl Altshuler, Brad Blose, Mary Epsten, Robert Haimsohn, and Justin Levine.

“We are very grateful for the support of our sponsors, volunteers, family and friends who have helped make this event possible,” said Devin Chodorow, President of the Guardians of San Diego and Co-Chair of the 2013 Tournament Committee. “The requests for charitable care exceed nearly $1.5 million annually, and thanks to all of you here today, we have been able to raise a record amount to support this need at Seacrest Village.”
