Going to Extremes: A Doctor Tackles Malaria and Whitewater in Africa
On Thursday, May 9 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. freelance photographer Trevor Clark, whose work has appeared on CNN and in Outside Magazine, will tell the inspiring story of Jessie Stone, an extreme kayaker and medical doctor. Dr. Stone took a bite out of malaria numbers in Uganda by starting a clinic there and providing low-cost mosquito nets to families. Clark will present a slideshow and video about Dr. Stone, who will make an appearance via Skype.
The free event will take place at the Encinitas Public Library, located at 540 Cornish Drive. The event is sponsored by the Encinitas Public Library and the Center for Global Awareness, a local nonprofit concerned with global humanitarian issues.
