We’ve all heard the expression “start ‘em early” but for fifteen year old Michelle Jacob of Leucadia, that seems to be true for many aspects of her life. “My parents made me learn to swim when I was three and since, I have always loved being in the water,” said Michelle. “I started on the RSD (Rancho San Dieguito) swim team when I was six and began competing.”

This past year at La Costa Canyon High School, Michelle was a freshman competing on the varsity swim team, with much success. “My first year has been great for me. I won 1st place at several meets in the IM (individual medley) and in several relays. My goal as a high school swimmer is to be a good leader, to compete and improve my swimming,” explained Michelle.

Michelle excels in the classroom as well as in the pool. She is on the honor roll every year, wins honors in Math, Science, English and Spanish and has won the Outstanding Academic Excellence Award as well.

Outside of school, Michelle delights in cooking and baking. “My mom helped me and encouraged me to cook at a very young age,” she said. “I enjoy looking for different recipes on the internet and recreating them.” It’s no surprise then that one of Michelle’s favorite restaurants is Encinitas Café and that one day, she would like to own and operate a family restaurant.

In the meantime, Michelle is focused on school and swimming. Several of her teammates are nationally ranked swimmers and have become close friends. In the near future, Michelle wants to compete and win at the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) every year. She also plans to swim during her college years and intends to study marine biology.

Michelle, her parents and fourteen year old sister, Jaime, have been long time residents of Leucadia. They love the family-friendly environment and the beach, but you’ll most likely see Michelle in the waves and not on the sand. Michelle said that people are often surprised that at her height of nearly six feet tall, she doesn’t play volleyball. She’s too busy winning races in the pool.
